At Summerfield Primary School, we know how important it is to instil a love of reading. The document below outlines some of the initiatives we have in school to do this.

Our Library Team

This year we have a new library team who are working hard on improving our library space and promoting reading for pleasure. So far they have:

• Purchased and distributed new books for the library
• Created book reviews with pupils/ bookmarks for recommended reads
• Co-ordinating reading competitions across schools
• Worked with KS1 teachers to enrich their classroom libraries
• Implemented and oversee KS1 story time with the children’s library team
• Set up Early Emergent Fiction and Non Fiction sections for our library

We also have a children’s library team. Their role is to:

• Keep the library tidy and make sure books are put back properly.
• Help to choose and plan competitions/ judge competitions.
• They run KS1 story time with over lunch.
• Assist the younger children in school if they need support choosing a book.
